GHEMME DOCG – 2008

prodotti details

After an extremely mild start to the year, the cool, wet spring was followed by a summer featuring violent weather phenomena. In July, a mini-tornado passed through the vineyard, destroying half of the production. The remaining grapes were blessed by an Indian summer with hot days allowing for a late harvest and the development of the aromatic properties of the grapes.

The 2008 vintage has a richer, fuller ruby-red colour than usual, thanks to the perfect maturation of the skins. The bouquet has distinct violet and liquorice tones, the palate is characterized by a full body and slightly grassy notes of not fully mature tannins as the full development of the skins was at the expense of the seeds.

    2 Red Glasses:
«Perhaps the slightly greater evolution of the wine and harsher tannins put this wine a small step behind the Gattinara of the same vintage but, with Torraccia del Piantavigna, the whole range is outstanding»

Gold Crown: «A well-deserved golden star for this Ghemme, whose bouquet has hints of flowers, cherry juice, and notes of tobacco in a well-balanced body supported by the tannins»
